How long until Yaz is effective against preventing pregnancy

I started taking Yaz the same day my period started. according to the pamphlet i revcieved it states that after day one you do not need to use a back up method of birth control. It continues to state that if someone does a sunday start that afer 7 days it is effective against pregnancy. is this true?
