Hello! My friend has a grandfather who had been taking care of him when his parents died. He is very attached to him and he is the most important person in his life. Yesterday he found out that his grandpa had pulmonary fibrosis. He was devastated. How much can a patient live with pulmonary fibrosis?

Hello! Unfortunately, the prognoses for pulmonary fibrosis patients are not optimistic, especially if the patients are older. There is no cure and no treatment at the moment that proved to be successful in slowing down the progression of pulmonary fibrosis. Usually, corticosteroids are used in the initial treatment while surgical options or lung transplantation are options for younger patients. Usually, median survival is three to five years from the onset of symptoms.
