Hello, my kid is 5 years old and he had some viral infection and after that he started breathing heavily and loudly, that almost lead to suffocation. This happened two days after the infection. He was diagnosed with viral epiglottitis and I would like to know how soon can this condition be cured in a child?

In treating this condition, depending on the cause, different medications might be used. Improvement should be expected after couple of days in the best case and the main medications are corticosteroids (for inhalation) that reduce possible edema and relax the muscles of upper respiratory ways. Don't worry, the therapy should work.
