Hi, I have a human parvovirus B-19 and am pregnant (8 weeks). My symptoms are the most common, like fever and a “slapped cheek”. My doctor told me that this parvovirus can result in chronic infections in immunocompromised patients and that during pregnancy can cause fetal hydrops and death. Anybody knows something about my problem?
Well, to my knowledge, infection during pregnancy can cause fetal death in less than 10%. It is very little known about human parvovirus B19 biology. Parvoviruses are smaller than most of the other viruses and is very resistant to disinfection. Parvovirus B19 is known to be pathogenic to humans, the only one among all parvoviruses. It is spread by blood transfusion or respiratory droplets and is associated with erythema infestiosum and arthropathy. Is interesting that there is no available human parvovirus vaccine!
