Hymen breakage

One morning during the days of her periods, my Girlfriend told me that she suspected that her hymen had torn...She said that it wasn't during masturbation and she hadn't undergone any heavy exercise.. both of us were very shocked and she is worried about her sexual health..? Is this kind of a situation normal?

She said she was having a sudden, unnatural pain in her vaginal area and was looking very uncomfortable in her walk too..she had to leave for another city and was running short on time...so she couldnt check it properly......Could it be just an overly painful period...

Is breakage of the hymen possible during periods just standing, or walking, or any other way..while not doing heavy exercise or masturbation
