Since I started having sex, I have been terrified about STI's. I am just about the safest person I know: I always use a condom, and though I do not always know my sexual partners, I take every precaution to prevent an infection. I am being serious here.
However, last week I got over a week and a half of having a sore throat. This scared me because I was worried it was early HIV infection. Though I think I am overreacting, this was a very real fear. However, now that the sore throat has passed I have been looking constantly to see if my glands have started to swell. I am not sure what to look for, and am scared that I am missing swollen glands. How noticeable would they be? What would they look like? Would they be easy to miss? Please let me know, because I am terrified. |

An HIV-related throat infection wouldn't have any identifiable characteristics other than what a regular infection would be. You probably just got a viral infection and had a sore throat.
If you're scared you have HIV, the only thing to do is get tested.
Also, you probably know this, but the best way to prevent an STD is to be in a monogamous relationship. It's also great that you wear a condom every time, since that's the next best thing you can do. You can find yourself in a single relationship, or you can try professional ways to alleviate your phobia. |
