I got pregnant while taking hepsera!

Hello! I have been using Hepsera for six months and my blood test results have been improved. My doctor said that the virus is not multiplying any longer. I feel no side effects of Hepsera and had no bad reaction to it. I feel really well. Since my period is late for two weeks I decided to do pregnancy test and it was positive. Now, I don't know what to do. I got pregnant while taking Hepsera and I am afraid this drug could harm my baby.

Hello! I hope you know that Hepsera does not prevent hepatitis B virus spreading to other people while taking it. So, please think about the risk your partner has now and talk to him about it. Unfortunately, there are no well-controlled studies on pregnant women. Also, the mechanism of transmission the virus from mother to infant is also not known. Reproduction studies were done on rats but these studies are not predictive on human response. I think you should visit your doctor as soon as possible and he will carefully consider the risks and benefits of continuing your treatment with Hepsera during your pregnancy.
