Hello! I have been feeling very tired for days since I worked too much. My job is very stressful. Now, I am at home with shingles. Great isn't it? I went to see my doctor when the first symptoms occurred and he prescribed acyclovir of 800 mg three times for seven days. This is the fourth day of my therapy and I still feel terrible itching and pain. I went to see my doc again and he prescribed germiderm gel to be applied on lesions. I don't know should I apply this gel?

Hello! Acyclovir is one of antiviral medicines used for treatment of shingles. As you said, you visited your doctor immediately which is very important. When you are late with the therapy there is no right result. I hope that you spelling of Germiderm is correct, it would be useful if you could give me the composition of this medicine, then is much easier to know exactly what it is. As I am informed this is antibacterial gel used for treatment of dermatitis. It is also used for disinfection of the skin. Maybe your doctor suspected that you got some bacterial infection (which can happen if you are scratching) but I am really not sure if he had made the right choice. If you read the instructions of Germiderm you will see that under contraindications it is said "lesions of the skin produced by HSV or hypersensitivity to any of the medicines’ components". I think you should talk to your doctor again and ask for explanation.
