I've had an ingrowing toenail on my left big toe for a few years now(left side). First time my doctor put my toe to sleep and removed the entire nail. About half a year later it came back and i was in the same situation..... doctor put my toe to sleep again and removed the left side of my toenail.... that time he told me that if i feel any pain after it grows in, to schedule an appointment immediately. Not 5 months later, the nail came back and seemed to be in the early stages of being ingrown, so I scheduled an appointment for the next day. Came in, he took a look at it and decided to trim it. Started off without any anesthesia, but once he started digging beneath the skin, i couldnt take it. He "only put half my toe to sleep" and continued cutting. He told me he cut it on an angle so it'll have a greater chance to grow out properly. Therefore that was my 3rd visit for the toenail... reason being is he stated to me many times that he doesnt want the permanetly remove the nail, or "burn it" because of my age and it could mess up my growth plates. The reason I'm writing is is because during this recent visit he told me about a procedure that involves in an OR and "scraping the bone....."???? He however doesn't want to do this on me because "it's risky, expensive, and has a risk of bone infection." Can someone please explain this procedure in greater detail than my doctor since he was in a rush for something important....
