Hi, does anyone know case of inguinal hernia surgery in a child. What are outcomes? How long did it take for child to recover?

Hi, usually it is recommended to have hernia surgery as soon as it is noticed, since they can have even fatal outcome. They cause little discomfort but are very dangerous. Hernias can have such bad consequences as the death of a piece of intestine, loss of a testicle or an ovary. In some cases it can be even fatal. Hernia is actually a sac that is an outpouching of the peritoneum, the inner membrane lining the abdomen. If there is only water present in the sac it is called a hydrocele. But, when bowel, ovary, or abdominal fat get stuck in the sac, it is called a hernia.
