Intense cramping, 8 weeks along

Hey everyone, and thanks for any info in advance.

My fiance and I just found out last Friday that we were expecting. She should be entering her 9th week tomorrow (Thurs) and is having intense cramping periodically. It will either calm down or completely go away after sitting or laying for a few minutes. Is this normal?

I've done some reading on the web about cramping, and it can be normal or abnormal and can be some bad news, or nothing to worry about.

As first time parents, we are a little worried. Waiting on a call from the Gyn, and I'm impatient, and would like some input from those who have been through pregnancy before.
