Irregualar Period after pregnancy

I had a baby 5 months ago and started the the first sunday after as my doctor said to. I have had regular periods with this up until last month when I barely had one at all and this month have not started when I should which was 2 days ago. I know I'm not pregnant. Should my cycle be normal 5 months after giving birth while on birth control or is this not normal?
