Irregular cycle or Miscarriage?

Ok well I do have an appointment for the doctor but thought I'd ask here to maybe ease my mind a bit. I'm really sorta freaked out. I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I hope someone can help out.

A few days ago when going to the bathroom I noticed a brown/red discharge when wiping. This went on for 3 days and on the third day my lower back and abdomen really started cramping up. I wasn't suppose to start my period for about 14-18 more days and on the 4 th day I started bleeding. I only had an 18 day cycle when I started bleeding and I NEVER have short cycles. 32-36 days is about normal for me. Anyways the bleeding is not heavier than a normal period but the back pain seems a bit more than a normal period. I have no clue if I am/was pregnant. It's a possibility I suppose. I am sexually active..but always use a condom. I want to know will my doctor be able to tell if in fact I have had a miscarriage or if it is just an irregular cycle? Hopefully it's nothing more serious than those two things. *crossing my fingers*
