Is Acute kidney failure temporary condition?

Hello, my friends. My friend was diagnosed acute kidney failure. I think it is something serious, but I don't know much details. I would like to know whether this is a temporary condition. Will my friend recover from this? I would really like to know that. Thanks for all your help.
