Is Fluoxetine only antidepressant approved for children?

Hello, my son is 7 years old and I am afraid that he is suffering from some sort of depression. We thought that he was just a bit shy, but the doctors said that he is depressed and that he needs both therapy and medications. So, we would like to know if Fluoxetine is the only anti depressant approved for children?

Well, the good thing is that the doctors established the problem. I mean, if left unattended, it might turn into something more problematic. This way, with the help of therapies, your kid has a good chance to get out of this situation mentally unharmed. As for Fluoxetine, it belongs to SSRI group of meds and can deal with a depression effectively. And I assume there are other meds from that group that could help your son.
