The reason I arrived at this website was my curiosity about my chances of getting the disease myself. I lost my mother to acute leukemia 6 years ago. Strong healthy and vibrant she went to the hospital after feeling fatigue and cramping in her joints. She died 10 days later. It was quick and unexpected. It sounds like digging for whether or not it is heredity will be a challenge.
The same thing happened to my dad. He was very fatigued, had no appetite and was pasty white. I knew when I saw him that something terrible was wrong. He was diagnosed with ALL and died within 6 months. It was already in his spinal canal and spread to his brain. My mom passed away two months earlier with pancreatic cancer. Both of them lead very healthy lives; didn't smoke or drink and were trim. I can't imagine how this happened to them. All I know is that my sister and I are very concerned for ourselves and our children. I believe this is hereditary and it terrifies me.
Hi my name is Cindy my sister is going through chemo right now and her grandaughter who is 2 yrs old is now in the hospital said to have lukemia to. I believe In Jesus Christ and I believe we all can be cure through him this is who gives our family strength and courage. I believe it is in our lifestlye(SIN) and knowing who we are in Him and knowing what we can do and the wonderful doctors can do and know when to give it to Christ Jesus. In God's word (Bible) Matthew 19:26 "With God All things Are Possible" The LOVE OF GOD is unconditional, eternal and transforming. God does what he pleases! ( God's Will Be Done) He sees the future Not us. He created us, But! His mercy is great, He can add more years to are lives and He's compassionate, His Grace is sufficient. We might not get all the answers we want but! just know "He still Sits on the Throne in heaven and" He Is Still In Control" No matter what my family is going through right now there is peace and If God chooses to take them home, they win and if God chooses to heal them they win they win either way and My family will continue to Praise God for His Goodness. We are also Thankful for all the doctors and everyone he has put in our lives. As of a hour ago Our report on my sister and grandneice they are both doing great. One more thing the doctor told my sister she had 3 months to live supposely to this Oct 2009 but! we are Trusting God and my sister gave her life to Jesus a week ago. Praise God Thankyou for letting me share my story. I hope this encourages all of you. 1. Forgive 2.Pray 3. Bless
I know there has to be a hereditary link for it. My mother, my mothers mother, and my mothers mothers mother all had it (or have it). Its a non-insta dead kind. I believe my mother called it type 8 or some such thing. She doesn't like to talk about it.
Those are the only 3 women in my family to have it however. My great grandmother lived to 93 with it. She had 8 children (7 girls and 1 boy) and of those only my grandmother had it. My grandmother (now 73 still alive) had 3 children (2 girls and 1 boy) and of those only my mother has it (now 40).
I have never been diagnosed with it. I am now 24, so I may be in the clear. My great grandma was diagnosed at 20, grandma at 22 and mother at 19.
I believe my mother is actually participating in a study to determine if there is a genetic link. She doesn't like to talk about it much however (and I respect her privacy to much to pry), so I don't have much information on it.
