I just had a cortisone injection for bursitis in my hip for the first time. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant. Is it still safe to start trying? What are the potential side effects and how long do we need to wait if it's not safe? Please advise.
Hi! Cortisone shots are safe during pregnancy because I had to take them while I was pregnant due to my asthma problem. Cortisone shots deliver cortisol, which is a natural hormone produced by our own bodies and it would not hurt the baby unless taken too much. Cortisol is produced originally by the adrenal glands and if a woman takes too much, it is said it could affect the baby’s adrenal gland work but I had three and everything was ok, my doctors said it was safe and I have just had a very healthy baby.
Maybe you should also discuss it with your doctor depending on your individual situation, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Good luck with conception!!!!!

I just met with a neurologist yesterday. I have back pain but am also trying to get pregnant. The dr. told me that while getting cortisone shots will not necessarily harm the baby, there is a potential that the embryo will have a problem attaching to the uterine lining.
