Is baby safe when mother has hbp in pregnancy?

My daughter is 5 months pregnant and suffers bhp. She has always been overweight and had hereditary higher blood pressure than normal. She generally feels well and has checks regularly. Is baby safe when mother has bhp in pregnancy? Can it have consequences later?

Women with mild to moderate and well controlled hbp have great chances for good pregnancy outcome. If needed, medications are prescribed in pregnancy to control blood pressure. It is very important because of adequate blood flow that is needed for oxygenation of placenta and a baby. Lowest doses of medications are used that can not harm unborn baby. Uncontrolled hbp in pregnancy has number of risk both for mother and a baby.
