Is colchicine safe as maintenance to prevent gouty arthritic attacks?

I am 45 years old male and I am suffering from the gouty arthritic. It is the worst thing when you have something and nobody, not even doctors can explain you how did you get it. It is just some flaw in metabolism. But I am going to take colchicine as treatment. Is colchicine safe as maintenance to prevent gouty arthritic attacks?

I think it is very safe. I am using it for some time now and I am feeling OK. It is usually used to prevent further gouty arthritic attacks. It can be discontinued when uric acid levels (that cause all the trouble) are stable. But it can be used again in low doses to help prevent further attacks and to maintain the condition.
