Hi, I have a question concerning my friend's health. He has been using heroin for a long time and he wants to stop now. He thinks about doing detox with methadone, and even mentions diphenoxylate hydrochloride as a possible solution. Are these two drugs used in the process of detoxification?

You should know that getting off heroin should be monitored by a doctor, even use of methadone should be controlled by a therapist. Getting of the drugs is not only the medicament therapy; psycho therapy must be included in order to help with the addiction. So, it is a good thing he wants to stop with the drugs, but it would be better for him to do it in a proper way.
