Is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy heridetary?

Hello, my father has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His condition is most likely caused by the unhealthy way of living (junk food, smoking, and alcohol from time to time). Is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy hereditary? I am afraid not only for myself, but for my children as well, they are only 6 and 9 years old. So, what is the answer?

There is a possibility of inheriting this condition but if you lead a healthy life, avoid all the risk factor, exercise regularly, then the risk of this illness occurring is greatly decreased. I just hope that your father will be smarter from now on and leave all those things that led him to his heart problem.
