Hi! I’m 17 years old and I have a friend from school who has some disease that called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I read something about this heart disease but I still don’t understand is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy inherited condition or not? Is that means that his children will definitely have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?

Yes. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (or HCM) is inherited condition. It’s a genetic disorder of the heart. I have also HCM and my doctor told me that I have a 50-50 chance to transmit the HCM gene to each of my children. I have two sons and they go every three years to screening.
