Is hypertrophy of labia minora normal thing?

I'm eleven years old and at first I was worried about this case. When I first saw this thing I ignored it, but after a while it irritated me and when I walked it pained me. I felt scared so I told my mom about what I had discovered and how I had felt. Soon I went to see a doctor and she told me it was labial hypertrophy. I felt so relieved when I heard it was common. The doctor said I might be able to get surgery and shorten it. Everything I feel now is RELIEF, RELIEF, and more RELIEF!

I am a 29 year old woman with 'labial hypertrophy' as they call it, and I have never had a dull sex life. I have been with many men, a few women, and am now happily married to a man who has never made me feel bad about my enlarged labia. I realized my labia was unlike the average not until my early twenties, until then I never even knew mine was different (I don't look much at other women's labias).
I always had mild rubbing issues, but nothing that was painful or so uncomfortable that I had to seek medical assistance. I recently looked into labia reduction, or 'plasty', but there are risks of losing sensation or even awful pain that will last for life. I have a great sex life, and I am fortunate enough to be among the minority of women who have multiple orgasms with intercourse, and would not risk loss of sensation via genital mutilation(call it what you want, that's what it is).
There may be a man or two out there who would prefer a small labia, but as most of the wonderful men on this post attested to, men do not care. I have to admit, I initially was very distressed to learn my labia was larger than deemed 'normal', but I am not very comfortable with my body and feel very sexy despite the fact that I don't fit the perfect mold. I think whoever posted the reply that large labias are unnatural and should be cut to the mold, is very disturbed and should seek couseling and have all sharp objects taken away from them immediatley! As far as comfort, trail and error. Some of my clothes are uncomfortable but with the right undies I can usually remedy the situation, though I am a big fan of going undiless too.

Im 13, and the inner labia lips are hanging right outside the outer lips. It really embarresing because they are very stretchy and they collect cotton and things from the underwear that i wear or swimmers or such. I hate it, and if i want to do anything with my boyfriend, i am worried he might be turned off by the discusting stringy thing hanging out. I wouldnt mind surgery, but they probobly wouldnt give it to me because of the cost and the fact that i am 13. I havnt had my period yet. What can i do? Sad

Im 15, just turned though.
And i didnt know how many people have the same thing as me.
Its horrible and you just feel so eughh.
It does rub on your legs and i feel that very ugly "grannie pants" help, but no one really wants to waer them often.

I dont think i have 'labial hypertrophy' though because they have always been like that. Im so worried for when i come to loose my virginity that the guy will just luagh at me.

And tbh, people just saying your normal its ok doesnt make me feel any better at all.

the other week me and my friend were talking about embaressing bodies on the TV, dont know if anyones seen it, but there was a lady who had quite large labia, no medical thing, she just had too much skin tissue, like me.
But the thing is my friend was saying how disgusting it was, so i just noded and agreed when i was thinking that i was in the same position.
I HATE IT and what annoys me is by the time i can get sugery i will probably have lost my virginty.

Labias come in all different shapes and sizes. Please do not ever feel ashamed of what you have. Mostly the only problem is that you feel that you have no one to identify with. You might feel that you are alone and that you futures lover will not be excepting of your large labias. Embrace then and learn to love them.
When i was younger i used to compare my labias to the other women and thought mine were too big also but i looked online and found educational sites that helped me understand my vagina better.

k so the same thing is going on with me!
i was feeling very uncomfortable so i went to the bathroom to check it out and i had brown discharge and my right labia minora is like twice the size of my left side! it's very itchyand dry other than the discharge and SO uncomfortable! what is going on??

I'm 18 years old and only recently realized that my labia was different from "normal" women. At first I was embarrassed and unsure of what to do. I'm still a virgin, so the thought of being looked at as abnormal or unattractive by the first guy i have sex with is scary. However, after finding this forum and reading all the responses I feel better. Mine doesn't cause me any discomfort so I think surgery would be a bad choice for me. Although I'm worried this is something I'll be self conscious about for the rest of my life. It's hard not to think that if this one thing is different about my body, what else could be? Like I said though, finding this forum really helped me. So thanks to those of you who said nice, encouraging things!
