Wow. Give me a break buddy... First of all there is no "logical reason in argument of god". Try to find one, I'd love to hear it. And "...those who live in the world invest their hearts and minds in a reality only based on what is certain to them in this world..." Really? If only that were true! We wouldn't have so many delusional people running around! I'm not getting into that any more tho, I don't have the time and many other people have wonderful information about religion and why it is not for anyone that values reason.

There is so much good information out there regarding being a reasonable person in general and in dealing with religion and sex. Don't take it from me, go find that info... I might recomend listning to podcast, reading books, reading websites etc. Be fair and listen to to all sides a bit... one should catch your attention and hopefully you will want to learn more about that point of view. The best thing that I can recomend is keep an open mind, really. Another great tool to help you decide who is being logical and resonable and who is blowing smoke up you ass... study Logical Fallacies. The comment above mine is chalk full of 'em! It really is so important to be able to reconize a crock of shit when you hear/see it! If you Google Logical fallacies you should come up w/some good websites. Wikipedia has an article explaining them also.

But if you do want to just take my word for it... religion, any religion is a big crock of... well. (good books to read on that topic: The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens, watch Cosmos with Carl Sagan, listen to in the infidel guy podcasts, lots of decent vids on youtube if you look up Atheism and related topics)
...And masterbation, for the most part, is normal and healthy. It is part of your sexuality and there is nothing wrong with doing it in private or with other people that are consenting (so long as not prohibited by law Wink )
(Sex is Fun is a good podcast, but is 18 and up. I'm sure planned parenthood has good info on sexuality, Scarleteen and the Midwest Teen Sex Show have great info for younger people that want to know about sex and sexuality.)

Here's a few quotes to get you warmed up bud:

"GOD WORKS IN US AND WITH US, NOT AGAINST US OR WITHOUT US."
-John Owen

"Pleasure (masturbation and sexual immorality), Profit, and Preferment are the worldlings trinity."
-John Trapp

"The world is our Passage, not our portion"
-Joel R. Beeke

I'm a non-denominational Christian, and according to the bible *(which is more valid today than ever) Masturbation is a sin.

The Bible on Purity:

-Don't place yourself in the way of unecessary temptation. Know your moral weakenesses and avoid situations where the temptation to sin would be irresistible *(2 Samuel 11:1-12:24)

-Guard the content of your thoughts. Don't fill your mind with the world's moral filth. *(2 Timothy 2:22)

-Beware of the Sins of the heart. The person who thinks of something bad is just as guilty as the one who actually carries it out. *(Matthew 5:27-30)

-If you fall, ask God to forgive you and purify your heart and desires. Only God can forgive you, restore your joy, and fill you with the right desires *(Psalm 51:7-15)

-Keep an Eternal Perspective. Don't waste your time chasing after earthly pleasures *(2 Peter 3:10-11)

-Sinful temptations are the work of the devil drawing you away from Christ into fleshly desires. *(Galations 5:19,22)

Sow a thought, reap an act;
Sow an act, reap a habit;
Sow a habit, reap a character;
Sow a Character, reap a DESTINY.

Cool, those are some good quotes there! A lot of them are from the bible even, which is the word of god right? So it must be true cuz he wrote it!

That would be a good example of teh logical fallacy of "Circular Reasoning" also called "Begging the Question".

But... If it is quotes that impress you I have a couple too! Lemmy know what you think.

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen Roberts

It is said that men may not be the dreams of the Gods, but rather that the Gods are the dreams of men." - Carl Sagan

"I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires." - Susan B. Anthony

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
- Epicurus

"We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart." - H. L. Mencken

"Men never commit evil so fully and joyfuly as when they do it for religious convictions" - Blaise Pascal

"Faith is believing something you know ain't true." - Mark Twain

"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason." - Benjamin Franklin

"The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church." -Ferdinand Magellan

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Carl Sagan

"And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence." - Bertrand Russell

"Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense." - Chapman Cohen

"In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point." - Friedrich Nietzsche

"Only Sheep need a shepherd!" - unknown

"I still say a church steeple with a lightening rod on top shows a lack of confidence." - Doug McLeod

"It ain't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand." - Mark Twain

"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says; he is always convinced that it says what he means." - George Bernard Shaw

"The first clergyman was the first rascal who met the first fool" - Voltaire

"Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest" -Denis Diderot

"The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers." - Denis Diderot

"The world holds two classes of men - intelligent men without religion, and religious men without intelligence." - Abu Ala Al-Ma'arri

"Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." - Thomas Jefferson

"Religions are all alike - founded upon fables and mythologies." - Thomas Jefferson

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government." - Thomas Jefferson

I just re-read my first post and I realized that I mis-read the guest post above mine regarding ...investing hearts minds in reality etc. I now realize you mean their (our) own reality and not necessarily true reality based on scientific facts etc... so I retract that part of my statment. Yes, in an effort to understand, or out of bordom, or for whatever reason... our imaginations can and do run wild.

I, too, am a CCD teacher... and I want to say to the other CCD teacher... thank you for that answer. This has always been a tough subject to talk about with my confirmation class. I will, if I may, quote you to my class as you very clearly and reassuringly expressed what the Catholic church teaches. It is hard to get these kids to understand that any church, of any religion, is NOT a home for Saints, church is a hospital for sinners, of which I am the worst, just like everyone else. It's hard to get these kids to understand that mistakes are ok and if all of us were sinless and perfect, then there would be no need for churches, regardless of your religion. Thank you for letting kids know that it is ok to be human!

ad majorem Dei gloriam!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis.
Sancte Michael Archangele, ora pro nobis.
Moses et Elijah, ora pro nobis.

In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritvs Sancti.

Amen.
