Hello, my son is seven years old and because of his auto immune problem she did not get his vaccine against diphtheria and other similar diseases. Anyway, for couple of days he has high temperature and enlarged tonsils. He has problems with swallowing too. I have read online that it might be diphtheria. Is there a possibility of suffocating from diphtheria?

Diphtheria rarely happens today because of the vaccine that deals with it from the very start. It is manifested with big tonsils, with some secretion on them and in the throat. This condition can spread furthermore to respiratory system and affect breathing, which might lead to suffocating. So, it would be for the best to take him to the doctor immediately.
