Hi, my best friend is a heroin addict. I know that he has been enjoying marijuana but this came as a surprise to me. Apparently he is also aware of the problem he is having. On his demand, he went to see a doctor. Now he is in a rehab center and undergoes some kind of therapy. I would like to know if there is hope for heroin addicts on therapy.

Hi, the best thing that your friend could have done is admitting that he is a heroin addict. What is also important is that he started the treatment. Heroin is a highly addictive drug. The abuse of it causes a lot of serious health problems. It can also, indirectly, cause some severe damages of the organism. There is a variety of treatments for heroin abuse. The best results are seen when the problem is identified early. Also it is important to start the treatment as soon as possible. The therapy differs in people. However, methadone therapy has been proven as the best. As I said, the best thing is already done. I can understand that you are worried about your friend, but if he sticks with the therapy you shouldn't be so worried. Not only that there is hope for him, but he will also be able to normally go on with his life.
