I developed a very itchy rash beneath my breasts, around my armpits, and other places on my torso a few years ago when I was on Atkins. I thought it was just that I was exercising and the sweat from my sports bra was causing it, but no matter how much I washed my work out clothing, it didn't go away. I went to a doctor and she was no help. She gave me some anti-fungal cream because she thought it was like an athlete's foot thing. (It didn't help at all.) It wasn't until I stopped Atkins, did the rash go away. I'm pretty sure that being in a state of Ketosis is what triggers the rash. Also, I've found that Splenda combined with a low-carb diet will infinitely make the rash worse. However, I've had splenda products without being on a low-carb diet and the rash did not appear. In other words, Splenda alone doesn't trigger it.

The rash recently came back as I'm on another diet, and I realized that I unintentionally was causing my body to go into ketosis by not eating very many carbs from grains. I've been eating fruit (which has a lot of carbs, but not the right kind apparently) but I know now that I must eat grain carbs to keep the rash from appearing. The rash goes away within days once I do consume some. I'm wondering if there's an 'official' diagnosis for this phenomenon since from this thread, it seems to be not a rare thing.

So KafkaMichael1 are you saying that you attribute the cease of this condition to the Spriulina?

Cause here's hoping....I just bought a bottle yesterday and I cannot believe, and I'm not gonna jinx myself but....so far so good. That's all I'm sayin' bout that.

But 4 years! Wow........there is light at the end of the tunnel

I get a rash whenever I start losing weight by any means. I go into a state of ketosis very quickly; I'm convinced that I'm allergic to ketones. I've seen so many doctors, who were not able to help in any way. I check my ketone levels whenever I get the rash, and it always shows that I'm in a state of ketosis. I have a very painful time losing weight. I use topical creams given by doctors to help out, unfortunately to no avail.

Wow! I have been looking for information on this for over a year as I have similarly developed a red, extremely itch, fast spreading rash that eventually covers my stomach and parts of my chest every time I go on a low carb diet. Mine got so unbelievably terrible that I was forced to find a doctor who could prescribe something to make it go away.

For anyone who is suffering out there I was prescribed a topical cream: Mometasone Furoate...it is the only thing I've found that works (although I'm encouraged by the post about spirulina). I still do not know why the rash stays so localized and I am amazed at how quickly the rash comes on almost instantly after starting a diet.

At this point I believe it is not just a low carb diet that starts it for me as other periods of weight loss have caused the same rash. Good luck and good health to everyone who has experienced this.

Wow. I am so glad that I am not the only one that has had this experience!

I am currently 2 weeks back on the cambridge diet and (12lbs down today) and my rash has started to reappear Mad

Has anyone else tried the spirulina? I am going to buy some online now, just wondered if you had to take the 'large doses' and what the large doses were (mentioned above)

I was on the cambridge diet for 6 days (Sole Source) before I developed a very unsightly rash. The rash was on my forehead, the middle of my back and the middle of my chest. When I worked out I would perspire mostly in those particular areas. I didnt know what the rash was. I went to the doctor and still no answer. The rash looked like red welts that was filled with fluid. My skin would weap...I used antihistamine and stopped the diet immediately. It is amazing to see so many others have experienced this horrible reaction...I thought I was allergic to some of the ingredients!!
Thank you for some answers! FINALLY
