Hi, my mother will have kidney transplantation on Wednesday. I would like to know most important things about recovery. Should she eat some special food and should she rest all the time?

Hi, chances of recovery are good, and 90% of transplanted kidneys functioning well 2 years after the surgery. Your mother will have to use medications for a long time, to suppress the immune response. She shouldn’t rest too much after the surgery and lay in bed all the time. On the contrary, she should resume the normal activities as soon as possible. However, she shouldn’t drive or lift heavy objects for the first couple of weeks. A kidney transplantation recovery includes a special diet. Many people gain some weight after the surgery, and they should control their caloric intake. A diet should include raw vegetables and fruits, nonfat dairy products, fish and sugar-free beverages. Don’t worry, a kidney transplantation recovery is successful most of the times.
