I had labiaplasty via the trimming method 1/29/07. I still have marked
tenderness of the labia, insane sensitivity of the area around the clitoris,
and I swell noticeably by the end of the day. Wearing underwear is uncomfortable; wearing jeans or pants is downright painful. Walking is difficult because it irritates the area. My surgeon says he and his colleague have never seen this before and doesn't know what to tell me except to wait and try to be patient.

Although this is clearly not the usual experience, is it still normal? Every-
thing online says you should be completely recovered in a couple weeks.
Could this discomfort be permanent? Are there any options for me if it
is?

Has ANYone else out there had a less than optimal recovery after this surgery???

i had the surgery about 5 days ago and i have no less pain today than i did the day after surgery. i have also read about women who's experiences were way less painful than mine and no one ever gave me any indication that the pain would keep me out of school for this long. it sucks even more that im starting to think that im going to be in pain for a lot longer and i wish someone with a medical degree would tell me something other that "well its not infected"...

I had this surgery 20 years ago, when it was quite new and the surgeon who did it cut them totally off - which I have regretted to this day. I was better off before and there is some scarring and pain to this day.

How have you healed now. I am sure the surgeons today are more experienced in this field.

I`m in my thirties and I`d been very uncomfortable for a number of years with enlarged labia.I told my Dr and was led to believe it was such an easy operation to get over.Not.I had surgery & it all went wrong, stitches came apart on both labia and has healed with a torn look. The labia are very different shapes but the pain I still have is awful,it goes thro my vagina, bottom and goes down into my leg.The op was 6 months ago.Havin done some research it seems that its a common operation now with all ages.If you have large labia and it doesn`t bother you too much then leave it alone and remember that no two bodies are alike,we`re all unique. If you feel that there is no alternative then be prepared, the procedure is 100 times worse than you`re led to believe and do your homework well, make sure you have total faith in your surgeon.

Hey Cassafras,
How are you recovering right now? Has all the discomfort gone away since your last post? And did you ever learn why there was discomfort for so long? I am experiencing the same thing 3 months post op.
