Hi, the main difference is in the time needed to develop cancerous disease. Some leukemia are very quick, even with fatal outcome in a few weeks and others can last for years. In chronic leukemia in the beginning of the disease, there is still partial normal functioning of the defense system. As the disease progresses there are less white blood cells and damage can be noticed. Acute leukemia is characterized by rapid increase in number of white blood cells and they are abnormal.
