About a week ago, I noticed a few bumps on my bottom lip, and i thought it was a reaction to a new toothpaste i was using. I discontinued using the toothpaste immediately and my bottom lip didnt get better. I went to the doctor and she told me I had cold sores, and prescribed me Valtrex and told me to put abreva on it. I took the medication and things havent seemed to be getting better. My bottom and top lips are covered in tiny red bumps and my mouth is very swollen and bright red. It is extremely itchy and uncomfortable, and painful to sometimes speak and eat foods. I went to a different doctor this evening and he said that it wasnt a big deal, and thought it was a reaction to something. I thought it could be from the toothpaste but i stopped using it over a week ago and my symptoms seem to be getting worse and worse. I am travelling early tommorow and I hope this doesnt affect my trip. The doctor i recently went to didnt tell me what it was, and didnt give me any information. He prescribed me a cream called Fucidin. The Valtrex and abreva did absolutely nothing, so i think it is some sort of other ailment. Any Ideas and is it serious?

That happened to me several years ago, and I discovered that it was lip stick or any other chap stick. The only thing I can wear on my lips is pure vaseline. The doctors that I went to couldn't figure it out either, this is something I sort of concluded on my own. I do still ocassionally wear lipstick for special occasions and such, but I do get slightly irritated afterwards, which is barely noticeable and clears up in a few days.

hey, i get the same thing except i get little itchy bumps on the corners of my lips. About 2 months ago, i was sampling lipstick at a department store and the next day my whole top lip was red and itchy. I was told it was an allergic reaction even though i have never been allergic to anythign in my life. I dont know what caused the new bumps on the corners of my lips but it is very frusterating and itchy.

i got the same thing! it was a reaction to a fragrance ingredient in a chapstick. chances are, its something you're putting on your lips. try to figure out what's triggering it.

I got prescribed fucidin, but it was because i had strep throat that got left untreated, and when it is left untreated you get Canker Sores in your mouth and they had spread to my lip. They gave me Fucidin for Canker Sores which (unlike Cold Sores) are not an STD.

I get the same thing too. My lips react to any type of lip products that has glitter or even a slight hint of shimmer to it. Majority of lipsticks and lipglosses have these. But if you search carfully, you can find a handfull that doesn't have it. you can't go wrong with vasaline/petroleum jelly. These bumps tend to last for about a week and it is very irritable, unfortunately for me, my lips get swollen to (Angelina Jolie!) If you ever apply a new lip product on and get a slight tingly sensation, wash your lips right away! This has helped me in preventing outbreaks in the past. Good Luck!
