A random digit-dial telephone survey of more than 55,000 California households showed that long working hours had a major impact on hypertension risks. The responses came from 24,203 workers ages 18 to 64 who said they worked at least 11 hours a week.
The results came from the self-reported data on working hours and hypertension and it is thought that the problem could be worse and the numbers underestimated since many workers don’t even know they suffer from hypertension.
The biggest risk of hypertension was among those who worked 41 to 50 hours a week, 17% higher from those who worked between 11 to 39 hours a week.
The results impose a very important question to the Government who failed to regulate the working hours. Unlike, Japan or European Union, The United States still doesn’t have laws that would limit work time or excessive overtime. |
