HI. I have one problem. My psychiatrist thinks that I’m an addict (and I’m not) and I need him to give me prescription for Lorazapam … Now, as he thinks that I’m an addict and Lorazapam is addictive drug he will probably think that I’m on it… How can I get him to prescribe it for me without thinking that I’m addicted to it??? Under what circumstances will he do it??

Or try another dr. or explain him what you need the drug for. Be genuine with him and he will feel that and understand the real cause for you needing it… (by the way, what is the cause??) Or, you can try another similar drug that he would be willing to give you, like Zyprexa.

    Hello charisma!

What kind of symptoms are you having? If they are really severe, you should definitely contact your doc!
Is this the first anti-anxiety drug that you are taking or you have used other?
Side effects are common with this kind of drugs and they usually subside once the body gets used to it. If they don’t subside but the drug gives you good results, many people just accept to live with the side effects or try to treat and minimize them.

However, if you are experiencing something too weird, you should definitely stop and talk to your doctor about changing the dosage or the drug itself.

I went on a very small dose of lorazepam years ago when having thyroid trouble...it helped on so many levels that I have continued. I have none of the bad side effects and only the good. I sleep better at night, get fewer leg cramps, am way more alert during the day, have not had a panic attack since I have been on (I have almost forgotten what they feel like), my arthritis and fibromyalgia are better on it, I breezed through menopause.

I don't think I am any more 'addicted' to it than I am my thyroid medicine. I think I need it to maintain good health. Most of my doctors have agreed with this. I don't abuse it, I use it regularly at night (.5-1mg) and as needed during the day, sometimes not at all. I never feel drowsy on .5 or lower, in fact the oppisite. At 1mg I get sleepy, but can wake and respond well if needed.

I think many in the medical profession would agree with my approach...after all, if I were to take tylenol 4 times a day for my problems - or advil - would I be considered addicted to it? I say, if it helps the quality of your life, and you are not having bad side effects or using too much, don't worry. And maybe find another doctor.

As long as your doc feels and know you really well. It is not as addictive than most benzo's abd besides you don't get the after effects as klonopin, zanax, etc. Ativan is much much safer! quote from my doc.......

I had been taking lorazapam for many years for severe anxiety and sleep disorder. The pshyciotrist said I should stop because it is addictive. He does'nt understand that the priscription says 3 times a day .5mg. But I only take that when I take it for anxiety which now is not as frequent. I do occationally take one to help me sleep. My doctor thought that was a bit ridiculous since he monitores my prescriptions and I don't have them filled that often. So now Ive been put on zoloft for the anxiety.Don't know if it works because I just started taking it. Then I was also priscribed temazlepam to help me sleep. Now to me that sounds a whole lot worse that on .5mg tab that did the same and had no side effects. (WHAT DO YOU THINK) GUEST
