New study found that a diet that is good for heart can help in decreasing risk of prostate problems in men. Research showed that a high – fat diet increased risk of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which is a condition associated with frequent urination that is often very painful. Statistics claim that this condition affects about half of all men by the age of 50. They also said that red meat consumption increases risk of BPH by almost 40%.

Researchers found during study that eating vegetables reduced risk for BPH by 30% and consumption of lean protein reduced risk by 15%. This clearly indicates that obesity increases risk of BPH and that high – fat diet increases risk of BPH. During the study experts found that high fat intake increases the body’s overall inflammatory response and it increases levels of circulating hormones which can affect prostate tissue.

On the other hand, low fat diet rich in vegetables and moderate alcohol consumption is associated with less obesity and lower circulation of hormones and this leads to less stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. Study showed that moderate alcohol consumption decreases muscle tone of the prostate.
