| I quit on December and like you, have been waiting for the cough. I haven't had one yet. Nothing more severe in that department than clearing my throat. I have read, and see this over and over how everyone is different so don't get worried if your healing process isn't the same as someone elses. I feel a host of things and I am attributing it all to healing. Stick with it, I hear it gets better. |

| I quit Dec 1st and was expecting the coughing too. So far I haven't had it with the exception of a few throat clearing coughs. From reading some posts, I see that we don't all experience the same things at the same time. I never experienced the nicotine withdrawal either but the discomfort in my chest and back, the sore dry throat and the anxiety more than makes up for it. |

I am glad I am not the only one having the sore throat I wonder are you also getting the stiff neck/sore neck muscles deal pattyr6? It started in the front of my neck like tension then the last couple weeks worked to the back..
pattyr6 Looks like you quit longer ago then I did by about a month....from what I see in your post it sounds like I have more sore throats to look forward too...joy
And don't even get me started on the sinus infection problems I have had since quiting. Do not get me wrong im glad I quit I just wish I had known the true extent of the side effects which seem to be deliberately obfuscated by doctors. My guess is if more people knew how heinous and long lasting the withdrawal symptoms were , less people would quit. |

| I agree, there isn't much information out there about what to expect but since going through this I figure, we have been damaging our bodies for years, recovering from it isn't going to be quick or easy but it is worth is. At least we are going in the direction of getting healthy instead of getting sick and if we have to deal with sore throats, back aches etc, so be it. Anyway, I don't have any throat pain, just a dry throat that only started about 2 weeks ago. It seems like every few weeks, my issues change. Again, I think it's just the healing process and since reading all these posts, I see that there is no schedule that every body reacts to. I will say that I think excercise helps. Anything that causes your blood to flow and for you to breath a little harder I think will help clear the toxins a little quicker. I think there is still a few more months of this and maybe it's a good thing because I know I will never do this to myself again. It's scary at times but I know that we are better off now that we were 2 or 3 months ago even if it doesn't feel that way yet. You are doing the right thing. |

I realize that there was to be discomfort, that I expected.
However, currently, I am finding it VERY hard to swallow and breathe.
My neck and throat feels like sandpaper cleaned it out and I cannot
drink enough water. (Which, by the way, is not making it feel any better.)
Before I quit I decided that weight gain was not going to be an issue.
I started a workout program before I quit and changed the way I ate as well.
(I.E. Portion control on my meals and less carbs and sugar in my diet.)
My main concern is about the pain and discomfort in my neck, throat and chest and/or lungs. After almost 2 weeks I would never have expected this pain and sickness to occur. Maybe I should also explain that I was only a 6-8 cigarettes a day smoker. Never a pack or packs. I am confused and will be calling my doctor in the morning.
Anyone feeling this way please place a reply and let me know I am not going through this alone.
Thank you. |
OMG. Im having the EXACT same issues. I was a part time smoker (only when I drank while out) and I stopped 4 weeks ago.
I have been miserable ever since. I have this nagging cough and I feel like I have water in my lungs. My throat was killing me but that is starting to go away after the doctor gave me anti-inflammatory pills. But my cough is out of control.
My lungs feel much better now when I do my runs but when Im not exercising I feel like I'm a 95 year old 3 pack a day smoker.
I guess we just have to hang in there. I've quit before but I was in my late 20's and now Im 35. Maybe that has something to do with it. |

| Lump in throat developed could mean thyroid nodule developed after quiting smoking. Scary? |

I am having trouble after quitting. Today is one week since I quit and I feel like my throat is closing and my mouth is really dry. My left ear keeps feeling clogged and when I lay down in bed my chest is very tight. I was a half pack - 3/4 pack a day smoker for 5 years and on and off before that. I feel like I am going crazy because that is all i can think about. I keep taking deep breaths just to make sure I can still breath.
I am so funny about taking any pills because I feel like I might die if I take something or it will destroy my liver from taking it or I might become addicted to them.
I wish I knew how long this would last. I have 3 little kids and a full time job and I am only 29 and feel like I am losing it sometimes. My kids are the only thing keeping me going some days. Otherwise, I would lay in bed all day and not get up. |

|
|
I am on day 7 after quitting smoking. I am a 29 yo female w/ 3 little ones. I feel like my throat is tightening and my chest and back hurts so bad. My left ear feels funny and all of this in 7 days after quitting.
I wish I knew how to make this go away so I could sleep and I am craving everything.
I was only smoking a half of a pack a day for about 5 yrs. and on and off before then.
I feel like I am losing it and I am too scared to take anything to help my nerves.
Help.... |

Hi there. i have just reached the 3 week stage after quitting. I have quit before but I am determined to kick the habit for good this time.
First time round I had all the problems which have already been noted - sore lump in the throat, phlegm, etc. Also I was fatigued during the day and I started developing spots on my skin. I attributed this all down to the typical withdrawal symptoms from an addiction.
This time I've done things differently. Since I'm now determined to keep myself fit, I am drinking a Litre of water a day , eating an apple and orange, and going for a 2 mile jog every evening. Absolutely no sign of a bad throat yet and starting to feel great! |

I had these strange thigs happening to me so I thot it might be cancer. Got a CT and bronshoscopy done and the doc says it is only n infection in the lungs.
I also had the black phlegm and feel that something is bloking my throat, which I find difficult to clear. Occassionaly after gargles the throat clears the black phlegm.
I have swallowing issues also sometime. Got a Barium Swallow and Endoscopy done..
All normal.
I did hear of shortness of breath but cn swallowing difficulyt be a sign of withdrawal. I also have a lung infction and I am on antibitics.
How long will the withdrawal symptoms go on. Its been a month since I left. |
