Manic-depression! Are patients aware of the condition?

Hi, my father has manic depression. It is a very serious condition. Are patients aware of condition?

Hi, I believe that it is very hard to keep his devastating disease under control. I have been using lithium for years with a lot of success. Lithium's function can be considered as preventative and a treating. It is mainly prescribed to prevent manifesting bouts of depression. In bipolar manic-depression there are episodes of "highs" and "lows" and in periods between person acts in normal mood. Lithium is mostly used for bipolar manic depression. Patients are not aware, and doctors need to take their state as very dangerous and to control effects of medications.
