I can for sure relate to this! And hell yeah this is gross! I might have it bad, since for the next week im in canada with my mother, no weed and nothing to smoke out of. But every other day before I left I smoked, and ive been having diarrhea for over a week. And today more then ever since i havnt smoked for over 24 hours now. My plane flight sucked, out of a total of 6 hours on both planes i had to go like 3 times, twice at airports and now that im at a friends ive already gone 5 times and only got her after 6 and its 2:30 now... its bad. its gross and everytime i have to go, worst part is I dont have time to figure out what I can fix... arnt there like pills to help with this shit. What if I try to go get laid what im i going to say in the middle of sex... hold on i gotta take a dump... im sure no dude would want to hear that! but i did my research, so pretty much this sucks but if its not from you stopping smoking, there is some sort of animal shit in your weed, and when the weed tries the shit stays on it, and can produce in you wet shit. Nasty right!

IN GENERAL: Diarrhea can be caused by all sorts of things. Rule out problem foods and potential food poisoning first (a fever is your best indicator of food poisoning), and be aware of any significant mental changes happening upstairs, in particular anxiety. If you've got diarrhea that lasts more than three days with no probable cause, see a medical professional. Heck, see a medical professional anyway, even if you've got probable cause.

As mentioned in previous posts, if you're an everyday MJ smoker who's tapering off or quitting, it's natural for your body to want to flush itself of toxins and foreign substances, particularly from the small intestine, where the majority of cannabinoids are absorbed. I've heard of MJ-related diarrhea lasting from a few days to a few weeks.

Part of the problem may also be due to intestinal motility. THC has been shown to produce a calming effect on the small bowel muscles of mice (a handy substitute for people in lab experiments). This is why IBS and IBD patients often find relief from MJ.

If you've smoked for years, it's probable that some of those muscles in your small bowel may be under-exercised, or that you're experiencing a "rebound" effect -- your muscles have been receiving calming signals for a long time, and as a result may be producing stronger or abnormal muscular contractions in the absence of their "normal" environment (e.g. MJ-induced relaxation). This should clear up as the THC leaves your system and your normal muscular patterns reestablish themselves.

Additionally, the entire gut is actually a second CNS (known as the enteric nervous system). Although your brain and normal nervous system does most of the thinking and moving for your body, you've got a back-up system in your intestines which is involved in of lots of interesting things, including lower brain functions (such as moving your bowels) and the production of serotonin and other important neurotransmitters.

Disrupting your body's expected daily THC dose can disrupt those neurotransmitters, causing feelings of depression, anxiety, irritability, moodiness...making you feel like crap, and, more to the point, feel like crapping. This is known as mind-gut dysbiosis in medical literature, which is a fancy way to say that your brain and your bowels are affecting one another far more than they should be. This makes it tough to pinpoint an exact cause (whether mental or physical) for diarrhea in general, and particularly when coming off of marijuana.

I've been a pot smoker since high school and I'm about to turn 42. My usage has gone up and down depending on what is going on in my life. I probably smoked less in college because I was focused on my studies. I have been smoking almost daily for 2 years and that includes vacations to Mexico and trips home to see the family and friends.

Anyway, I decided last week I was going to chill out for a while....not a good idea to quit cold turkey. In 4 days all I have eaten is one slice of pizza, half a chicken breast and a Payday candy bar. I have no appetite and as I look through the pantry, fridge and freezer NOTHING sounds appealing. Additionally I have lost about 5-6 pounds over the 4 days and I have had diarrhea even though I'm not really eating anything. I've never been a great sleeper but I can see a little difference there as well....maybe missing another 2 hours of solid sleep and lots of crazy ass dreams.

I don't really feel bad but just not myself physically. I haven't really dealt with the sadness, depression or anxiety that I hear about but I've never been one to get depressed.

Good luck to those of you trying to stop, slow down or take a break...it ain't easy!

well done to guest for quitting...

again i find myself here looking through forums to see what other people are going through. I have been quit now since the end of january over 2 months.... I mean i am still stook in 2 worlds, should i have quit because it will have made my life better or should i have stayed smoking where i felt fine all the time? I have been prescribed anti depressants and they have cleared up alot of symptoms, I am posting reallt to say again, i quitt cold turkey( i say cold turkey but i was never really heavy and had lots of spells where i had nights of etc etc) only after 3 weeks of quitting did my syptoms show up, so beware that it might take a month before you experience any other syptoms. Mine involed 1 night where i woke up drenched in sweat, then the next day i just couldnt sleep and had a panic attack/dizzy spell that i never really got better with. It took 5 weeks and i was still up and down really bad, which led me to try the anti depressants for a bit of stability. So maybe it does really take people months to fully recover, i have been over 2 months and well yeah i am still not 100% but pretty much just get spells of anxiety and depression. Hopefully in one more month i will be totally free from all the negativity surrounding the use of cannabis.

To my main point also... it really helped me get through this because my best friend who quit 2 years ago said he had a really bad time. he didnt relize it was the weed first but after 5 weeks of constantly throwing up and having diahrea and not eating anything(he had lost about 3-4 stone) he was looking really really bad...he aslo said he had all the other syptoms that wnet with it too, really bad depression, couldnt sleep or stay asleep, felt really low etc etc... Basically he had to have all tests done to check it wasnt IBS or other stomach related problems, basically it was all to do with the weed, after taking anti depreessants for 9 months he was 100% better after 3 months of taking them, he still had to have a camera up his arse, But afetr all his syptoms cleared after a couple fo months his stomach and diahrea went away. I havent really expericend any throwing up or diahrea as such.. But good luck to every1, i am starting a new thread on recovery and the time length and how people are adjusting to the process, peace

Wow this thread is opposite of everything you hear about the stuff from fellow smokers, I am surprised to actually see your common experiences.

In all my years of smoking, I have never had any physiological problems with marjiuanna, withdrawal or otherwise. Until now, that is. Within the past year or so, I can't smoke much of it at all without getting really sick in the morning (vomiting and diarrhea), and feel almost like a drinking hangover- dizzy, nauseos, etc. Years of the stuff without a problem, then it just started creeping up on me lately.

The first few times it happened I was just thinking maybe food poisoning, maybe a stomach flu, maybe I just ate too much etc... but at some point coincidence becomes pattern. And on a deeper level I KNOW it's weed-related, when even mere thoughts of the previous day's J, or seeing my B is enough to send me reaching for the trashcan I have to keep nearby.

This stuff has always treated me well, and maybe it's my own fault or my abuse of it, but whatever the reason I now have to throw in the towel. Because it used to be that was a great thing about smoking- you didn't have to worry about if you smoked to much (IE vs alcohol), no hangovers. Now, the worst hangovers.

I'm a 25 year old male, and I've been smoking weed for the past 10 years pretty much non-stop. Sure there were a few months here and there where I'd go away or quit for a while, but for the most part I'd toke. In the past few years, that consumption has gone up. It has always treated me well and never incapacitated me seriously in any way.

Until about two years ago, when every morning I'd wake up with extreme abdominal pain and have diarrhea a minimum of 4 to a maximum of maybe 12 times before it would taper off in the afternoon. This was literally every day. I started my research to find a cure, and only had limited success with things like immodium and Pepto bismol, culminating in a visit to the emergency room where I was offhandedly diagnosed (after a finger in the ass) with IBS and given a referral to a specialist. But wait! There was one cure- if I smoked weed I would feel instantly better. My stomache would calm down, the diarrhea would go away and I could go on with life.

Weed wasn't my first thought as a culprit, if anything I initially considered it a wonder cure. As I read on however, I came across much literature on the GI nervous system and how it is chock full of cannabinoid receptors- could the weed be related? I had the good fortune of bringing the idea up with my brother (another doughty smoker who I don't often see for distance reasons) and he said that he had the same thing, and that he thought it was the weed.

With almost 2 months to go before my specialist appointment, I decided at last to try taking away the weed to see what would happen. It was bad for the first few days, but within less than 2 weeks my stomache was FINE. Literally, after all that, and the worry that I might live with IBS for life, it was fine! It was the weed! It truly is the cause of, and the answer to, so many of life's problems.

It should be noted that I stayed off weed for almost 6months. After that I started slowly smoking again, with no trouble. Over the past couple months I've regressed into my chronic smoking mode and the troubles with my gut are starting to reoccur. I guess if there was every any question, that answers it.

Time to quit again, for the meantime.

Yeah, there is alot of myth about M.J. not having any physiological effects. Maybe not everyone, but for some chronic users, it will take a toll on your G.I. system.

I'm not saying that the relaxation of the digestive tract caused by MJ is not the culprit here but think about this. Unless you are growing it yourself you really cannot be sure what kind of toxins are in purchased product. Some growers use chemical fertilizers and pesticides that are considered safe because they are tested for ingestion not inhalation. I had a problem like this while smoking a particular source. But, when i switched it went away. As for the pple that are having the problems after quitting this is probably not the case.
