Hi. I'm 50 years old and about two weeks ago I had one heart surgery.
The surgery lasted couple of hours and it was about artificial valves implanting.
Operation went well and my valve is working perfectly. During operation surgeon had to broke my sternum bone and several ribs just to get near to the heart.
All this is causing me big pains now, two weeks after surgery. I told my doctor about this and he described me some pain killer called Darvocet. I’ve been using this drug for a couple of days and my chest pains disappear but I started to suffer from difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips and tongue.
Can this be caused by Darvocet or some heart failure?

I know some things about this drug because I used it after my hip surgery.
Darvocet is a combination of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and propoxyphene designed to relieve mild to moderate pain. Propoxyphene binds to the pain receptors in the brain so that the sensation of pain is reduced.
So, you said that your pain symptoms disappear after using of this drug, but you got breathing problems.
Well, I can say is this really caused by your heart problems because you are aware that heart and breathing are tightly connected.
I know only that there are some side effects of Darvocet that I would like to mention.
Some side effects are allergic reaction with difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips and tongue slow, weak breathing, seizures, cold, clammy skin and severe weakness or dizziness.
So, you know now that your symptoms could be caused by this drug but you can be sure until you contact your pulmologist.

This sounds like an allergic reaction to darvocet, if I were you i'd call my doc ASAP and tell him about this, then ask him if he could change your pills to vicoden.

Vicodin and Darvocet are the same thing. And I agree, it sounds like a reaction to the med.
I have moderate pain from my back and Fibromyalgia. I have had the best success with NORCO. It isn't used much, it can be strong. I have met many doctors that didn't even know what it was. I take the 10mg/325. That's 10mg. hydrocodone and 325 of Tylenol. It is best, because if you have to, you can take three of them and still be under the 1000mg limit for Tylenol. But there are also 7.5mg, 5mg, with higher concentrations of Tylenol. Keep in mind, the more Tylenol in the pill, the fewer you can take if you need it, because of liver damage.

Good luck,

Information about medicins
10 325 Hydrocodone (related to codeine) is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics.
10 325 hydrocodone is used to relieve moderate-to-severe pain and a cough
suppressant
The combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone comes as a tablet, capsule,
and liquid to take by mouth.
It usually is taken every 4-6 hours as needed.

Another medications in the same type are
Vicoprofen this is supplied in a fixed combination tablet form for oral
administration.
VICOPROFEN combines the opioid analgesic agent, hydrocodone bitartrate, with
the nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory (NSAID) agent, ibuprofen.
Hydrocodone acts on the central nervous system and smooth muscle tissue,
slowing the central nervous system.
It is not clear exactly how ibuprofen works to ease pain.
Lortab this combination of drugs is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe
pain.
Lortab is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist

Tylenol #3

Tylenol 3 is a narcotic pain medication that contains both Tylenol
(acetaminophen) and Codeine.
Codeine is a prescription strength narcotic pain reliever and Tylenol is a
very effective over-the-counter medicine.
When the two are mixed, the pain relief is greater than if only one was
taken.
