Most people are unaware that men can have hot flashes too but scientists managed to identify flashes in those males who had undergone chemical castration for conditions such as prostate cancer by using a technique called sternal skin.

What is worse, even some male patients fail to realize that they are having hot flashes. The sternal skin test helps objectively measure when hot flashes are occurring. This technique could help both doctors and patients identify the episodes, and could assist researchers in finding the cause of the symptoms.

With identifying and monitoring the frequency of the hot flashes, the sternal skin test could also provide safe and effective treatments that would be a better alternative than taking hormone treatments or discontinuing cancer-related treatments.

The fact that hot flashes often go unnoticed shows that people suffering from them could get used to them and avoid medical treatments with proper cognitive behavioral therapies.
