Is there an ideal dosage of clozaril to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia? My daughter has suffered from this condition for more that 20 years. She is an intelligent woman but often has great difficulty concentrating or holding a conversation when distracted by noises in her head. She has insight into her illness and is interested in pharmacology. Whatever medication she is subscribed she adheres to exactly.
It seems as though clozaril is an effective drug for treatment of schizophrenia, though the potential for some serious side-effects exists. She will need to have weekly blood tests every week for the first six months to check to white blood cell count. It is a drug that needs to be monitored while a patient is using it. There are a number of possible interactions with other drugs as well. The recommended dosage, as well as other important information is something that you really need to speak with her prescribing physician about. He/she will be able to answer your questions.
