I use to always be one to either bite my nails or peel the nails layers off when I was young. I havent been doing that for years now but I was left with two thumb nails with deep ridges which I thought were from nail damage that I caused, but from reading I find that my nails regenerate and I should have new smooth nails but I dont. Now I see that all my fingernails are getting the same ridges (horizontal) .My thumbs have not only the horizontal ridges but one very deep vertical down the middle. What is causing this? and what can I do to fix my nail problem ?
The vertical ridges are fairly common, and are often due to heredity.
The horizontal ridges are often a symptom of an underlying health problem. I would suggest seeing your primary care physician for a diagnosis.
Get a soft buffer and sand your nails down until they are smooth. If they still have ridges, get a ridge filler. You can get it from Sally Beauty or anywhere. You just polish it on.
