Is it possible that nerve damage, neuralgia, that my wife has it has been caused by herpes? What causes neuralgia? I was aware that herpes could be that serious and provoke another condition. Her doctor believes that that happened. Is he wrong? Should we ask for second opinion?

Neuralgia is caused by irritation or nerve damage from systemic disease, inflammation, infection, and compression or physical irritation of a nerve, so it can be result from tooth decay, poor diet, eye strain, nose infections, or exposure to damp and cold. However, Postherpetic neuralgia is an intense debilitating pain felt at the site of a previous attack of shingles (herpes).
