Cytos Biotechnology, pharma company from Switzerland developed a drug that can reduce high blood pressure for several months at a time.
The drug, named drug CYT006-AngQb, was showed beneficial in reducing systolic blood pressure by 25 millimetres of mercury as compared to placebo treatment as well as diastolic pressure by 13 mmHg.
The study included 72 people who were given the drug. CYT006-AngQb works by cleansing up angiotensin II by inducing antibodies. Angiotensin II is a natural peptide that raises blood pressure by contracting vessels.
Four months after the treatment with the drug, half of the antibodies were left, which may indicate the need to top-up every six months.
The studies showed that the drug could reduce blood pressure but it is still uncertain whether it will be clinically meaningful. |
