Nicotine patch works better with a smoke

Although warning labels on nicotine patches suggest that smoking while using the patches may be toxic, a new study reports that those who wore a patch two weeks prior quitting had more success than those who quit cold turkey.

A study has been performed on 96 smokers and it showed that those who wore a patch for two weeks before their quit date doubled their success rate. Fifty percent of participants who wore the patch two weeks before quitting had stopped in four weeks time.
The point of the patch is to reduce the enjoyment the smoking gives. It gives a smoker a consistent source of nicotine and diminishes his need for a cigarette. It is the same with food. Eating is not so soothing and enjoyable if you feel full in your stomach.

If the FDA shows that interactive smoking and patch use is not toxic, the instructions on how to use the patch may be changed.
