Not typical, but can pain be an initial symptom?

I’ve been having pain in the neck that is not typical. I am 54 years old, female and I suffered neck pain before, but this time is different. I am worried that is something serious, like a tumor. I’ve been reading that lots of people my age have tumors or degenerative disorders of the cervical spine. Can pain be an initial symptom of tumor?

I don’t want to scare you, but the most common initial symptom that patients with a spinal tumor have is pain. Neck pain and pain caused by a cervical disorder is very common, it is also not a specific symptom of any one disease or medical condition. Any patient suffering from neck pain should be examined by a doctor in order to determine what is causing the pain. The tissues involved in producing the pain must also be identified and understood. The history of the pain and any activities that may have triggered it are also important factors in diagnosis which requires knowledge of functional anatomy. If you are suffering from neck pain or pain you believe may be caused by a cervical spine disorder you should seek the medical advice of a doctor (neurologist). Take care
