Numbness & tingling in right thigh

I have had 2 back surgeries but after last spinal fusion within a a couple of years my right upper,outer thigh started to go numb and tingly. Left leg and foot was always previously affected by back problems. Dr says this right side numbness is seen in overweight people or in pregnant people, of which I am neither these. Apparently caused by a pinched nerve in groin region?After fusion surgery I was overweight but meds for pain brought the weight down signifacantly as a great side effect.
He says nerve blocks will not work as the area is already numb,DUH.
Any other ideas?
