Besides the newly found fact that older people were happier than the young ones, new studies suggest that they are also more emotionally stable and that they stress less.

The study included 242 people aged 12-79 whose brain activities were measured by MRI scanning. The scanning showed that the older people’s emotional and mental stability may improve even in their seventies.

All of the study participants were asked to look at faces with different emotions while the brain changes were being scanned.
It was found that older people reacted better and controlled better their responses to negative expressions. It was also found that they were less neurotic. In the end it was concluded that life experience and the change in motivation goals have an impact on certain brain parts, stabilizing negative and positive emotions.

These studies could be a major step to better understanding of the growing old process.
