New study found that women who suffer from sever premenstrual syndrome have greater chance to develop permanently depressed nervous system. Activity of autonomic nervous system was investigated since it plays a great role in equilibrium in woman body which changes during menstrual cycle. During the research, physical, emotional and behavioral symptoms and their impact on menstrual cycle were investigated. Results showed that woman who had little or almost none menstrual symptoms didn’t experience changes when compared to women who suffer from severe PMS syndrome. These women had significant decrease in autonomic nerve activity during the days just before menstruation. It was discovered that women who suffer from premenstrual dysphoric disorder had lower rate of nerve activity than any other group of women during entire menstrual cycle.
This research indicates that PMS syndrome can be related to altered functioning of the autonomic nervous system during the symptomatic late luteal phase. It combines physical, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive symptoms which are common in the days just before menstruation cycle begins. Some other PMS symptoms include liability in mood, depression, anxiety, fatigue, loss of concentration, abdominal bloating, breast swelling and other.
Although this study is of great importance for women health it’s clear that it need more research in order to find treatments that can help women ease their PMS symptoms because it has a major impact on people’s work and family and social life too. |
