hi. im the 22 year old from a few posts ago who had her op on the 25/05.

im now on day 8 and im feeling much MUCH better.
its always the mornings and the nighttimes that hurt the most for me but the difference now is, the days are okay!

i find having jelly first thing in the morning with my painkillers helps. it moistens the back of my throat (i think a dry scabbed throat is the worst feeling ever).

and then after that i can pretty much have what i want.
i even went outside yesterday much to the shock of my family who've seen me as the walking dead for a week.

im still taking it slowly. dont want to make it bad again.

but i remember how hopeless i felt going through the worst of it, so im leaving a positive message!

hope you all feel better soon.

Hello,

I'm 52 yeard old male, I had coblation tonsillectomy 7 days ago. Believe it or not I didn't have any significan bleeding or pain. During seven post op days, I took 3 vicodnin and 8 tylenol 500 mg tablets. Most severe pain I experienced was on post op 5 days during evening I had severe ear and throat pain, whick vicodin helped. I lost 6 pounds and started to work out at the gym, post op 4 days. I shouldn't workout due to possible bleeding but I felt fine and I didn't bleed so I do workout everyday.

Everyone should find a ENT that does coblation tonsillectomy! Also, I don't have bad breath, confirmed by my girlfriend and friends. From first day post op, I started to gargle and rinse my mouth with ocean salt water with hydrogen peroxide. Maybe, Keflex 500 mg bid helped.

I'll admit when I get up in the morning, my throat hurts but not enough to take vicodin. Just rinse your mouth with salt water with hydrogen peroxide. Must drink lots of water, tea and juices.

So happy to have found this board. I am 10 days post surgery and I thought I was the biggest loser on the planet. It's so true that no one quite understands the pain of this operation as an adult. I have had two children and can certainly take pain. I have been going stir crazy however because the pain is so intense! I am very careful with pain meds because of the liver damage it can cause. I can barely make it between doses. The first 5 days seem like a breeze compared to the last few days I've had. The pain meds do not take away all the pain but they do manage to take some of the sharp edges off. I have switched from cool packs to a heating pad and that helps. At day 3 I managed to eat mac and cheese but NOTHING since. I have managed to take multi vitamins to give me some nutrition. I never would have believed that at day 10 all I can still tolerate is ice chips and popsicles and coffee. I have danon yougurt drinks and carnation instant breakfast but the burning it causes makes my cry and is just not worth it. Nothing is! I went from 130 pounds to 120 in ten days. I wasn't aware you could survive for 10 days on water and pain drugs. I hope I can tolerate some food soon. The only upside is that I haven't had to take my GERD meds since I have had zero food. Scabs haven't started coming off yet. Got that to look forward to I guess. I am headed back to work in 3 days so I hope this drastically improves.

The worst pain I have been having is my ears. I haven't even been aware of the throat pain because whenever I swallow I get THROBBING pain in my ears. I also get a terrible headache and almost start to cry because it is so horrible. I'm 17 and am on day 5 of post op. Nothing is helping with the ear pain. I took my lortab elixir and went to sleep. I woke up an hour later and my ears hurt the worst I've ever felt. I was bawling when I woke up. I couldn't handle it. I wish there was some secret remedy to get rid of the ear pain, because that's been my only problem. Too bad it's been hell.

I bought some vicks 44 sore throat spray. It actually helps my throat AND MY EARS almost immediately after I spray it. It doesn't last long but it may provide relief for you all until your meds kick in. My ears ached but didn't turn violent until about day 7 or 8. I was using ice packs until my meds kicked in then. The Lortab did little for me other than take away the urge to shoot myself due to the horrid pain. I am now on day 13 and still quite miserable. I am taking 2advil every 4-6 hours and it makes it so I can function but not happily.

hi all! I am 21 years old, and now 8 days post op... It still hurts really bad, but this whole thing has been like a rollercoaster... Right after the operation i felt pretty good. sore... but good. We thought i was going to have a speedy recovery... but then the anesthesia made me nauseated... as did everything I put in my mouth for three days after. I couldn't do anything except sleep and drink for three days. i lost 8lbs. But then after the original anti-nausea meds didn't work, my Dr. perscribed something that did, and I was able to take my meds and function a little. Then I started eating... real soft things like eggs, mashed potatoes, and soup. Then on saturday I felt great. I went out to eat with my mother (took me an hour to get through a tiny portion of a burger) and then my boyfriend came over and took me out for ice cream (which felt fabulous). But then Sunday was awful. I was feverish, and the pain was unbearable. For the last 6 days i've been drinking over a gallon of water a day... which used to feel very good... but today even drinking irriates my throat. The biggest problem is that my percocet's aren't really helping. I"m supposed to take 1 every 4 hours... well 1 subsides the pain for about an hour and a half. And then i want to shoot myself again.... I'm afraid I'm going to run out of meds before the pain stops.

I'm really hoping that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.... I took another week off from work and am postponing moving into my new apt so that I can relax. I'm hoping the scabs come off soon... i've heard its really downhill after that.

I am a 21-year old Female, and had a tonsillectomy on June 12th. I looked at the calender and thought it had only been 1 day lol, but it's been 2-days now. I had the surgery at 1:30 pm, don't even remember the anestologist come in and give me the anestesia.

Funny thing, (kind-of), the doctor that did my surgery, actualy showed my mom how "Huge" my tonsils were, he kept telling her how huge they were.
And it it actually easier to breathe.

First 2 days have been okay, my mom is has been pretty strict about me taking the Codiene every 4 hours, because she doesnt want me to be in any pain.

I'm worried about day 5-6, because the nurses actually mentioned that those would be the worst of the days of recovery.

I Have been drinking nearly 12-bottles of water a day, along with a bunch of Mr. Freezies. I have tried Jell-O and Sherbert; but they sting, so I think i'll stay away from that. I'm really hungry; and want noodles and butter and mashed potatos, so I think I'll try some for supper after I take Anti-Biotics and some Codiene.

The only thing that irks me, is the fact that I feel my insides grumble all day long, and bodily functions persist (burp, fart), they make me feel better :X.

I do agree with everyone that the mornings are horrid, and I gag when I intially wake-up. So I've been sleeping no more than 3-4 a night, and a a couple half-hours during the day.
I spit up mucus a lot, because it's extremely difficult to swallow. But Water, I drink about 2 bottles and have to use the bathroom.

Since last November, I've had Mononucleosis, and several other viral and bacterial infections. I was hospitalized once, but thought I got over it. So during my Finals week at College, I went in to see the doctor, and found out that I had went from 297 lbs., to 275 lbs.

Before surgery I was 271 lbs.

I've been wanting to lose weight lol, and I suppose, As long as I'm getting healthy and better. I just hope I get better before November. Otherwise that would be a full-year of being sick and in pain.

Now I feel like babblering, but I really don't have anything else to do but watch movies on tv.

So the last post was mine as well..

Now 6 days after surgery..

Last night I was feeling horrible cramps, and then had diarhea, and blood in it. I was freaked out. But my mom told me to wait out the night.

So today at about noon, she called the doctor, and told him my symptons. So it's some horrible reaction to the anti-biotic, that makes me have weakness in the knees, light-headedness, diarhea, and abdominal pain (intense, on a scale of1-10; 8.5)

>_< I just have to keep drinking water; absolutely no food. And just Wait... But it hurts sooo bad.
