I started birthcontroll 2 weeks and waited the one week as they said. My boyfriend came into town the second week i was on the pill, and i was on my period. We had sex 11 times in 6 days (we dont see eachother every week) and he came in me every time. I was taking the pill but not at the exact time every day, from around 1pm to 5pm i would take it, and i havnt missed a day. Could i be pregnant?? I'm 17 and my mom got pregnant while on birthcontrol (hence me). I'm afraid that since i started the last set of pills the week before my period and timed it so that my period would come when i was taking the placebos that it didn't work. Does that make sence??? any advice please !!!!

You should have been told to wait a cycle, not a week, before having unprotected sex. also, when starting the pill you should take the first ever pill on the first day of your period to align the pill cycle with your own. the placebo week doesnt start in time with your period, the period begins as a result of withdrawal from stopping taking the pills, usually beginning around 2 or 3 days into the placebo week.

so im not sure how you were taking your pills! seems a bit weird to me. did you just start taking the pill halfway through your cycle?

Well, basically the people at the Planedparent hood made it sound like i could start right away. He said you could start this week but your going to have your period soon so it wouldnt be that long of a wait to start then. But yeah, I've never taken birthcontrol before and have NO clue about it:P ... teenagers haha

Ok, well there was a leaflet included in the packaging (or there should have been!) instructing you how to start the first pack, Im guessing you didnt read it.

if you were on your period when you had sex you may have been far from your ovulation, (when your egg is released from the ovaries) coupled with the fact the pill thickens cervical mucus (making it more difficult for sperm to get into the womb) and alters the lining of the uterus (making it difficult for a fertalised egg to implant into the wall of the womb) which protects you from pregnancy.

as long as you continue taking pills correctly, every day at the same time, you should be somewhat protected from pregnancy. to be honest theres not much else you can do for now. you might find your next period is a bit out of whack in your next cycle of pills, because this cycle wasn't timed right, and so your body will adjust to the cycle of pills.

if you did conceive then you wont get a period/withdrawal bleed in your next cycle, or alternatively you could take a pregnancy test, (the pill wont affect the result) - but mind for the test to be accurate it has to be taken 21 days after you had this sex.

In the future, I would advise trying to narrow down the time you take your pill, try setting an alarm on your mobile phone? if you can. or taking it at a time thats easy to remember. I set my alarm on my mobile phone for 4.55pm, and take my pill dead on 5 each day. for example.

Please, consider the fact that you are now on hormonal medication, it shouldnt be thought of lightly you are messing about with your hormones! When pregnancy and your cycle is the issue you shouldnt take pills unless you know exactly what you are taking and exactly how they work. just seems common sense really!

sorry thats all the advice I can give at the moment, its late and I have coursework to be doing!! haha. take care!

well you have either one of two options:

1) continue taking the pills, there is no conclusive evidence that taking the pills harms an unborn child. so you arent hurting anyone by taking them. wait for your withdrawal bleed (your period in the placebo week) to arrive and test for pregnancy then.
if you continue taking them every day your body will adjust and your withdrawal periods will fall in with the placebo week naturally.

or

2) stop the pills, wait for your natural period to arrive (this may take some time) and begin taking the pills again on the first day of your period. and take a pregnancy test then.

its up to you. you dont have to stop the pills. the hormones wont affect the outcome of a test, and there is no definate or immediate evidence that taking them will harm the child, (although doctors will tell you to stop taking them once you know you are pregnant because we dont know for certain that they dont)

Yes you can get pregnant on the "pill" even if it's done right, that is why it is rated at 99% effective (my 2 children were conceived on the pill). The pill also becomes ineffective if you are on antibotics. So be aware of that as well. Take your pills as you were supposed to, and if for some reason your period doesn't start then take a test then. Till then you are more than likely part of the 99%. Smile

You really shouldn't have stopped taking the pills. All that is going to do is make your system even less reliable right now. How long have you been off them?

When you stop taking the pills your body has a withdrawal bleed/period, no matter how far into the pack you are.

BY STOPPING PILLS EARLY YOU INCREASE YOUR RISK OF PREGANNCY.

You were most likely NOT pregnant, and paranoid about pregnancy.
